company

The DM Print & Mail Company is committed to continually improving the environmental performance of its activities and services through a process of self-regulation and compliance with environmental legislation.

Green

We aim to:

  • Identify and manage the environmental impacts of products, processes, packaging and services and where possible, work with suppliers to improve overall environmental performance in these areas.

  • Manage all aspects of waste appropriately and increase the level of recycling to its maximum within 12 months.

  • Reduce consumption of energy and resources and where appropriate implement a green purchasing policy.

what are we doing?

mailing options that are friendly to the environment

we have introduced alternative services using environmentally friendly products, including:

  • use of recycled paper

  • use of recycled envelopes

  • use of recycled printing paper

  • using biodegrade polythene for polywrapped mail items

  • reduced costs to capture 'undeliverables', resulting in reduced waste for future campaigns

  • providing proactive advice to our customers about alternative ways to produce their mail pieces, that reduce overall paper content.

And with the cost of environmentally friendly products reducing, you may be surprised at how little it can cost to do your part in saving our planet.

our recycling policy

As a company we recycle wherever possible whether it's waste paper, cardboard, polythene or toner/ink cartridges.

use products from sustainable resources

We appreciate everyone's needs are different and as such the environmentally friendly option may not be suited to all mailing campaigns. It's for this reason we provide you with both options giving you the choice as to whether you want to go for our green mailing option or our standard offering.

Where the standard option is required, we will continue to work with our suppliers to ensure the all paper stock comes from forests that are sustainably managed.

what is the DMA doing?

In July 2003 the DMA signed a landmark agreement with the Government. This agreement committed the direct marketing industry to a series of targets over a 10-year period and to a change in behaviour, which would reduce landfill, benefit consumers and lead to more effectively targeted direct marketing.

The agreement has three clear objectives:

  • Increase collection and recycling of direct marketing material (addressed, unaddressed and loose inserts)

  • Publicise MPS, opt-out and selective facilities

  • Improve the targeting of direct marketing.

These objectives form the core approach to all DMA environmental activity. In tandem with these objectives is a set of timeline targets for the recycling of direct marketing material i.e. material which goes for recycling and re-use but which does not go to landfill. These are 30% (2005), 55% (2009) and 70% (2013). At the time of agreeing these targets (2001/2), the recycling rate for direct marketing material was 13%.

Further details on how the Direct Marketing industry is reducing the environmental impact can be found on the
DMA website.
